Do you ever look in the mirror and see something new that you wish hadn’t found its way onto your face? I have recently been experiencing this more often and find myself wondering what my body is telling me. You see, things that are unattractive are trying to tell us something. The spots on my face may be telling me I’ve neglected my skin, damaged it in the sun, or are not providing it with the necessary building blocks to repair itself. This is a natural consequence of sin and walking through life. The sooner we realize that our bodies are talking to us, the sooner we can take steps to give it what it needs to be healthy.

In Ephesians 5:25-30, the Bible shows us that how we care for our physical bodies is likened to how we are to care for our wives. It also shows us that Jesus gave himself up for his love, the church, and cleansed her so that the church would be without any spots, wrinkles, or blemishes. This is the picture of health and it’s a wonderful gift that every married couple has the opportunity to reflect to the world. It’s an honor to be invited into this picture of health and how sacrifices lead to it. Being healthy is not a passive thing. It takes discipline, knowledge, and the ability to pay attention to what is being said. When we do this for our spouse, we become gradually greater reflections of Christ to the world and people will be attracted to what they see.

Take some time to think about how you can care for each other. Shayna and I love simple charcuterie at home or taking walks around the neighborhood. It doesn't have to be complicated but make an invitation to turn up the intentionality or use the template we've provided to get things rolling right away. Whatever you do, don't wait. Your marriage is worth the investment and will pay back huge dividends over time!
